About

Synopsis

Lost Horizon (1937) is a Frank Capra adventure-fantasy from Columbia Pictures that you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from James Hilton's 1933 novel. Ronald Colman leads the cast as Robert Conway, a British diplomat fleeing a revolution-torn Chinese city on the last available plane.

The pilot diverts. The aircraft sets down in the Tibetan snow, and a party of monks guides the survivors through hidden passes into the valley of Shangri-La — warm, lush, cut off from the world gathering its weapons outside. The High Lama wants Conway to stay and eventually lead the place. Conway is half-willing; his younger brother is not. What makes the film land is the gap between the paradise on screen and the world Capra and his audience were watching collapse in real time — this reached cinemas as Europe edged toward another catastrophe, and the longing in it is not decorative.

Stream Lost Horizon (1937) online on iFILM — Capra at full reach, asking what the world might be worth giving up and what it costs to choose safety over everything else.
