Synopsis
Hell Is for Heroes (1962) is Don Siegel's lean war drama, free to watch online on iFILM. In the last months of World War II, a handful of exhausted GIs is left to hold a stretch of the Siegfried Line against a full German company.
Steve McQueen plays Private Reese — surly, insubordinate, the kind of soldier the army can't quite break. When the platoon pulls back, six men stay behind to cover a front far too wide, faking radio chatter and troop movement to convince the Germans a whole unit is dug in. Reese won't wait; his one-man push on an enemy pillbox drags him toward a court-martial. Bobby Darin, Fess Parker, James Coburn and a straight-faced Bob Newhart round out the squad.
