Synopsis
Holiday (1938) is a screwball comedy directed by George Cukor — watch it online on iFILM. Cary Grant plays Johnny Case, a freethinking young financier who gets engaged to a millionaire's daughter and quickly discovers that her family sees his plan to take a sabbatical while still young as nothing short of scandalous. Katharine Hepburn plays the other sister, Linda — the one who actually understands him.
Johnny has no interest in climbing the Seton family empire. He wants to earn enough to stop, breathe, and figure out what living actually feels like. Julia wants him in her father's bank, full stop. The comedy runs on that gap — and on the crackling, almost electric back-and-forth between Grant and Hepburn, working together two years before The Philadelphia Story made them a canonical pair. The film is based on Philip Barry's play of the same name.
Cukor keeps the pace sharp and the mood genuinely warm without tipping into sentiment. At 97 minutes it doesn't overstay — which is its own quiet virtue. Stream Holiday (1938) online on iFILM.
