Synopsis
The Getaway (1994) is a hard-edged crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Roger Donaldson. Alec Baldwin plays Doc McCoy, a seasoned safecracker sprung from prison by his wife Carol (Kim Basinger) — the cost of freedom being one bank job for a corrupt fixer named Beynon.
The heist unravels fast. Beynon's double-cross leaves Doc and Carol running for the Mexican border with a wounded hit man and his unhinged companion closing in from behind and the police somewhere in between. Michael Madsen, James Woods, and a very young Philip Seymour Hoffman round out the cast with sharp supporting turns.
Donaldson's film is a remake of Sam Peckinpah's 1972 original, tighter on the action and looser on the nihilism — but the couple at the centre are still morally frayed, which keeps the chase from feeling routine. Stream The Getaway (1994) online on iFILM.
