Synopsis
Watch Roma (1972) online — Federico Fellini's plotless, playful portrait of the city he never quite left, co-produced by Italy and France, running 128 minutes. There is no protagonist, no arc: just Rome itself, observed across several decades through the director's own wandering eye.
Fellini steps in front of the camera and guides us through layers of the city's life — subway excavations that unearth ancient frescoes, only to watch them dissolve the moment air touches the paint. A midnight motorcycle rally thundering down cobblestoned streets. A wartime music hall crammed with soldiers and working-class spectacle. A Vatican fashion show where cardinals parade in neon-lit vestments. The legendary Anna Magnani, cornered by Fellini outside her building, tells him to go to bed. It lands like a punchline and a love letter at once.
No film has mapped a city this personally. Roma is less a documentary than a waking dream — baroque, loud, and completely its own thing. Stream Roma (1972) online on iFILM.
