Blame the Game

Blame the Game (Spieleabend, 2024) is a German romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Marco Petri. Pia and Jan are newly together, and they've organized a game night with her friends — which Jan sees as his one shot to make a good first impression. Then Pia's ex walks through the door, and the evening goes sideways fast.

The film plays out in real time across a single apartment. Board games turn into proxy battles for old grievances, Jan's attempts to keep up with insider jokes keep backfiring, and everyone's version of the truth shifts by the hour. Dennis Mojen, Janina Uhse, Anna Maria Mühe, and Edin Hasanović handle the ensemble well enough that the escalation feels earned rather than manufactured.
