Synopsis
Derry Girls (2018) is a Channel 4 comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM — three seasons set in early-1990s Northern Ireland, where army checkpoints and IRA bomb scares form the backdrop for five teenagers getting into spectacularly ordinary trouble. Erin, Clare, Michelle, Orla, and the lone English boy James navigate their Catholic school with the kind of chaotic energy that makes every episode feel like something is about to go catastrophically wrong.
Saoirse-Monica Jackson leads a cast that includes Nicola Coughlan before Bridgerton and Louisa Harland in the role that should have made her famous sooner. Creator Lisa McGee wrote the series from her own Derry childhood, and that specificity is exactly what makes it work far beyond Northern Ireland. The Troubles are present but never preachy — they seep into ordinary family scenes in ways that are quietly devastating. Three seasons, twenty-three episodes, and a finale that earns every emotion it lands. Stream Derry Girls on iFILM.
