Synopsis
The Challenger Disaster (2013) is a BBC docudrama starring William Hurt, available to watch online on iFILM. It reconstructs the inquiry into why, one cold January morning in 1986, a space shuttle tore apart barely a minute after launch.
Hurt plays physicist Richard Feynman — ailing, blunt and allergic to official evasion. While the panel would rather wrap things up quietly, Feynman keeps pulling at the thread everyone else steps around: how a rubber sealing ring behaved in near-freezing cold. Bruce Greenwood and Brian Dennehy play insiders for whom the truth could mean the end of a career.
This is a chamber piece, really — the decisive battle happens at a hearing table, not in orbit, and a single glass of ice water says more than any stack of reports. Hurt drew strong reviews for a performance built on a mind too honest to soften a fact. One for viewers who prefer the investigation to the spectacle.
