Synopsis

Dumplings (餃子, 2004) is a Hong Kong horror film directed by Fruit Chan that you can watch online on iFILM. Bai Ling plays Aunt Mei, a cook who makes dumplings with a remarkable anti-aging effect and a recipe she keeps to herself. Miriam Yeung stars as her client — a former actress desperate to recapture her youth and her husband's interest. Tony Leung Ka-fai plays the husband: distant, indifferent, easy to lose.

The dumplings work. What goes into them is not something Mei volunteers upfront, and the reveal recontextualises everything the film has shown before it. Fruit Chan uses the setup to push hard on what women are expected to sacrifice to stay desirable, and the film does not soften that argument. Originally a segment in the Three… Extremes anthology and later expanded to feature length, it moves at a slow, deliberate pace — closer to dread than shock — which makes it linger far longer than a standard genre entry.
