Synopsis
The Cure (1995) is a quiet, honest coming-of-age drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Peter Horton. Eleven-year-old Dexter has AIDS. His neighbour Erik is a loner who keeps mostly to himself. A shared fence and some free afternoons are all it takes for an unlikely friendship to form.
When the boys read about a doctor in New Orleans who may have found a treatment, they don't tell their parents. They build a raft and float down the Mississippi — a road trip that is part adventure, part desperate hope. Joseph Mazzello and Brad Renfro bring a natural, unselfconscious chemistry that keeps the film from tipping into easy sentiment.
Horton doesn't flinch from what AIDS actually meant in 1995, and that honesty is what gives the movie its staying power. A genuinely moving drama that doesn't manipulate. Stream The Cure (1995) online on iFILM.
