Robot Jox

Giant piloted war machines settle the world's borders in Robot Jox (1990), free to watch online on iFILM. Stuart Gordon directs from a script by science-fiction novelist Joe Haldeman: half a century after a nuclear war, rival powers no longer field armies — they send single combat robots into the arena and let one duel decide the map.

The prize this time is Alaska. Achilles (Gary Graham) fights for the Americans, a worn-down jockey who is starting to question the whole spectacle. Across from him stands Alexander, a Russian veteran who has already buried several of Achilles' fellow pilots. One match settles everything, and a wrong move in the cockpit can kill not just the driver but the crowd in the stands.

This is early mecha cinema, made long before Pacific Rim, with stop-motion robots and a scrappy low-budget ambition. Some will call it dated; others will love it as late-eighties cult sci-fi. If you like retro-future machines and clanking metal, it delivers. Stream Robot Jox (1990) online on iFILM.
