The early 1940s. At an Alabama airbase, a class of cadets outflies most of their white counterparts — yet the brass keeps stalling, sure these men can't handle a dogfight. Once the squadron finally ships to Europe and gets its hands on the P-51 Mustang, it starts escorting heavy bombers and downs enemy fighters on its very first runs. Laurence Fishburne leads as Hannibal Lee, with Cuba Gooding Jr., Andre Braugher, Courtney B. Vance and John Lithgow alongside him.

Robert Markowitz directs, drawing on the lives of real airmen whose skill in the cockpit chipped away at prejudice on the ground faster than any speech could.
