Synopsis
Mass (2021) is a chamber drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Fran Kranz in his feature debut, with Martha Plimpton, Jason Isaacs, Ann Dowd and Reed Birney carrying the entire film. Four people, one room, ninety minutes. Almost nothing else.
Years after a violent tragedy, two couples agree to meet face to face. One lost a child to violence. The other is the shooter's parents. The conversation that follows covers guilt, grief, rage and the question of whether anything like forgiveness is even possible — without the film tipping its hand on who deserves what.
What makes this unusual is that Kranz refuses to make it easy for either side. The performances are staggering — all four actors strip every scene down to the nerve. For anyone who has watched survivors and perpetrators' families be turned into symbols in the news cycle, this puts the human cost back in one unbroken room.
