Synopsis
The Mule (2014) is an Australian crime thriller with a streak of pitch-black comedy, ready to watch online on iFILM. Melbourne, 1983: a meek amateur-football trainer agrees to smuggle heroin back from Thailand by swallowing twenty-odd pellets of the stuff.
Federal police nab him at the airport. The law lets them hold a suspect for seven days while nature runs its course, so Ray makes an insane call — clench, stall, and refuse to use the toilet for a week while a lethal payload sits in his gut. Angus Sampson plays the silent mule, Hugo Weaving the detective leaning on him, and Leigh Whannell, co-creator of Saw, wrote the script and turns up as the jittery accomplice. Most of the runtime unfolds in one hotel room, a standoff between a man and his own body. Anyone who likes tight, sweaty, single-location thrillers will get a kick out of it.
