Synopsis
The Eagle Shooting Heroes (1993) is a gloriously chaotic Hong Kong comedy-action romp from director Jeff Lau, and you can watch online on iFILM. It takes the solemn wuxia epic and detonates it into pure slapstick.
A princess and the queen's scheming lover wrestle for power, but the lofty plot keeps collapsing into musical numbers, sight gags and acrobatic brawls. Story is barely the point. The draw is the cast: Leslie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Jacky Cheung, Carina Lau and Joey Wong. The very same stars who shot Wong Kar-wai's moody Ashes of Time cut loose here without a shred of dignity.
