Silk
The World's First Caught Spirit.
Synopsis
Silk (詭絲, 2006) is Su Chao-bin's Taiwanese sci-fi horror, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A team of scientists builds a device that traps the energy of the dead, and for the first time they catch a child's ghost inside a derelict apartment block.
The spirit refuses to fade, so the team recruits Ye, a police marksman with extraordinary eyesight and a private burden of guilt over his mother's death. Wearing the device, Ye sees what the others can't: a fine thread of silk tying the boy to the living world. The further he follows it, the closer he gets to answers about what waits after death — and to the truth of how the child died. Chang Chen plays Ye as quiet and clenched, while Yosuke Eguchi's Japanese physicist supplies the cold scientific obsession.
The fear here comes less from jump scares than from the premise itself: death digitized, boxed and reduced to equations. The film welds Asian ghost-story dread to hard science fiction — an odd hybrid that should land for anyone tired of by-the-numbers horror. Stream Silk (2006) online on iFILM.
