Synopsis
Jappeloup (2013) is a French sports drama directed by Christian Duguay that you can watch online on iFILM. In the early 1980s, lawyer Pierre Duran walks away from a promising career to compete in show jumping. His horse is Jappeloup — undersized, unpredictable, and deeply uninterested in performing on command. Together they'll go to the Olympics.
The film is built from real events. Jappeloup was regarded as a difficult horse: volatile in ways that could wreck a competition at any moment. But the main dramatic tension isn't between rider and horse — it's between Pierre and his father, a former champion who can't reconcile his son's methods with his own. Guillaume Canet carries the lead, Donald Sutherland plays the father with the kind of restrained disappointment that lands harder than shouting.
At 130 minutes, it covers the full arc without leaning on nostalgia or manufactured sentiment. If you have any interest in equestrian sport or in films about fathers and sons who can't quite say what they mean — this one earns its running time. Stream Jappeloup (2013) online on iFILM.
