Synopsis
Kingdom 2: Far and Away (2022) is Shinsuke Sato's historical action epic, and you can watch online on iFILM. This second franchise entry, adapted from Yasuhisa Hara's hugely popular manga, carries on a young fighter's drive to become the greatest general China has ever seen.
The story unfolds during the Warring States period, roughly two and a half centuries before the common era. An attempt on the life of Qin's young king is made inside his own palace, and a former slave named Li Xin cuts the attackers down. When the neighboring state of Wei pushes across the border, Xin (Kento Yamazaki) marches off as an ordinary foot soldier and crosses paths with a mysterious warrior called Qiang Lei. Ryo Yoshizawa returns as King Ying Zheng, with Kanna Hashimoto and Nana Seino in the cast.
Sato stages enormous battle sequences crowded with extras while keeping the source manga's shonen swagger: dust, steel, war cries and reckless youth. It's built for fans of sprawling Asian war epics who miss the likes of Hero and Red Cliff. Knowing the first film helps, but the sheer spectacle pulls you in regardless.
