Noémie Merlant plays Emmanuelle, who flies into a luxury Hong Kong hotel on a quiet assignment: posing as a demanding guest to grade its service. The city of glass and neon throws her off her rhythm. She crosses paths with Kei, a man who keeps slipping out of reach, and that barely-there connection unsettles her more than any of the pleasures she could simply take. Naomi Watts appears as the hotel's manager, watching her guest with an agenda of her own.

This is no remake built around explicit scenes. It's a hushed study of desire, loneliness and the gap between intimacy and possession.
