Synopsis
The Terror (1963) is an American gothic horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Roger Corman shot it in a handful of days on sets left over from The Raven, and the low-budget origins are part of what makes it interesting.
A young French lieutenant named Andre Duvalier — played by a 26-year-old Jack Nicholson — wakes on a beach and follows a mysterious woman until she vanishes. The trail leads him to a crumbling clifftop castle owned by the unsettling Baron von Leppe, played by Boris Karloff. Strange apparitions. A sealed chamber. A dead woman's face on a living one. The Terror is rough around the edges by design, but watching Corman wring atmosphere out of almost nothing, with Karloff fully committed and a young Nicholson still figuring out how to own a frame, makes the 79 minutes worth it.
