About

Synopsis

Hello Ghost (헬로우 고스트, 2010) is a South Korean tragicomedy from director Kim Yeong-tak, and you can watch online on iFILM. Sang-man, a lonely man with no one left to call, survives yet another suicide attempt — and wakes up able to see ghosts.

There are four of them, and they trail him everywhere, refusing to leave him in peace. To be rid of the crowd, Sang-man strikes a bargain: he'll grant each one a final wish. The spirits keep possessing him, making him smoke, drink, weep and act out in front of a pretty nurse (Kang Ye-won) he's trying to impress. Cha Tae-hyun, familiar to audiences from My Sassy Girl, carries the lead and slides easily between slapstick and quiet ache.

At first it plays like a simple comedy about a hapless man and his pushy haunts. Then the last act turns the whole thing over, and the laughs give way to a lump in the throat — Kim hides a story about loneliness and loss inside the gags. A warm family film for anyone who doesn't mind a good cry after a good laugh. Stream Hello Ghost (2010) online on iFILM.
