Fire of Love
The greatest lava-fueled love story ever told.
Synopsis
Fire of Love (2022) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Sara Dosa. It follows French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft — a couple who spent decades filming active volcanoes from distances no sane person would attempt.
Their archive footage is extraordinary: lava flows inches from the lens, pyroclastic clouds swallowing the frame, eruptions recorded with a calm that borders on the surreal. Dosa weaves these images into something that reads less like a nature film and more like a portrait of two people who found their purpose — and each other — inside the crater. Both died on Japan's Mount Unzen in 1991, filming until the end.
The film landed on the Academy Award shortlist for Best Documentary Feature and earned wide acclaim at Sundance. What lingers isn't the spectacle but the quieter question underneath it: what does it mean to love something that will almost certainly kill you? Stream Fire of Love (2022) online on iFILM.
