About

Synopsis

Let the Sunshine In (Un beau soleil intérieur, 2017) is a French romantic drama directed by Claire Denis that you can watch online on iFILM — with Juliette Binoche carrying nearly every scene. Isabelle is a Parisian painter around fifty, freshly out of a marriage, and still trying: a banker who leaves before dawn, an actor who talks only about himself, a musician who might actually mean it.

Denis strips away any melodramatic scaffolding and just watches. The film is full of conversations that go slightly wrong, silences that stretch, and the particular exhaustion of someone who keeps choosing poorly despite knowing better. Gérard Depardieu appears late as a clairvoyant, and his brief exchange with Isabelle lands harder than anything in the preceding ninety minutes. The script draws loosely from Roland Barthes' A Lover's Discourse — which tells you something about the register Denis is working in. Stream Let the Sunshine In (2017) online on iFILM.
