The film is full of conversations that go slightly wrong, silences that stretch, and the particular exhaustion of someone who keeps choosing poorly despite knowing better. Gérard Depardieu appears late as a clairvoyant, and his brief exchange with Isabelle lands harder than anything in the preceding ninety minutes.
