Synopsis
Lebanon (לבנון, 2009) is an Israeli war drama directed by Samuel Maoz — winner of the Golden Lion at Venice — that you can watch online on iFILM. The entire film is shot from inside a tank: the gunsight is the only window onto the world outside.
June 1982, the opening days of the First Lebanon War. Four young soldiers are ordered to clear a bombed-out Lebanese city. It should be straightforward. It isn't. Through the tank's narrow optic, the crew watches the mission collapse in real time — civilians in the street, a hostile town, commanders pushing them forward over the radio while the men inside can barely agree on what they're looking at. The steel walls that protect them also cut them off from any sense of control.
Maoz wrote the script from his own experience: he served as a gunner in that same war at that same age. The film carries no heroism and offers no resolution — just the specific, suffocating texture of a bad day that keeps getting worse. Stream Lebanon (2009) online on iFILM.
