Synopsis
Uzumaki (2000) is a Japanese horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Akihiro Higuchi directed it from Junji Ito's cult manga, and the premise sounds absurd until it isn't: a quiet town named Kurouzu-cho falls under the curse of a shape — the spiral.
It starts small. One man fixates on the swirl of a snail shell, then on the whirlpool spinning inside his washing machine, and he cannot look away. Then it spreads. Hair coils on its own. Bodies twist into impossible loops. The town's high-schooler heroine watches neighbors and family bend toward the pattern one by one. There are no jump scares here. The dread builds from the slow realization that the geometry of the place has gone wrong.
Higuchi keeps Ito's washed-out palette and clammy stillness intact, trading gore for a creeping wrongness that gets under your skin. This one is for fans of strange, surreal turn-of-the-millennium Asian horror rather than anyone after a straightforward scare. Stream Uzumaki (2000) online on iFILM.
