Superstar

Superstar (1999) is an American comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Awkward Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher, a misfit at St. Monica High, wants one thing out of life: a real, knee-buckling, movie-star kiss. The catch is that nobody at school shows the slightest interest in kissing her.

Mary Katherine is an orphan raised by her oddball grandmother, sniffs her own armpits when she's nervous and crashes into furniture on a regular basis. If an ordinary girl can't land the kiss, she reasons, then she'll just have to become a superstar. So everything bends toward one plan: win the school talent show, ride it to fame, and finally get close to the dreamy classmate she's fixated on. Standing in her way are the sneering popular girls and her own spectacular clumsiness.

Molly Shannon carried her Saturday Night Live sketch character into a feature, and director Bruce McCulloch builds a goofy circus around her, with Will Ferrell playing several parts including her imaginary boyfriend and a spoof Jesus. The humor is loud, broad and proudly physical, which won't be for everyone, but fans of old-school SNL and silly late-'90s teen comedies will eat it up. Stream Superstar (1999) online on iFILM.
