The 1985 Soviet adaptation was a childhood classic for millions; this version sets out to tell its own story rather than recreate it.

Kolya Gerasimov (Mark Eidelstein) is a regular Moscow teenager — rap, gaming, no thought of the future. Until the day he lands in it. The intergalactic war is technically won, but the losing pirate forces are regrouping, and their plan requires someone from the past. Kolya becomes that someone. He meets Alisa Seleznyova (Dasha Vereshchagina), a girl who knows alien biology and combat and carries her own losses. Alexander Petrov, Yura Borisov, Konstantin Khabensky, and Fyodor Bondarchuk round out a notably strong ensemble.
