Synopsis
Three Wishes for Cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku, 1973) — watch online on iFILM the Czech-German fairy tale that has aired on Christmas Eve across Central Europe for over fifty years.
Director Václav Vorlíček and actress Libuše Šafránková gave this Cinderella a very different character: she rides, shoots a bow, and disguises herself as a boy to dodge her stepmother. The three magical walnuts don't save her — they give her the tools to save herself. Pavel Trávníček plays the prince as genuinely charmed and slightly outrun, which is funnier and warmer than any pompous royal.
No Disney softness, no cartoon villainy — just a brisk 82-minute folk tale made in socialist Czechoslovakia that has outlasted most of its contemporaries. For families, for adults who remember it, for anyone who prefers fairy tales with a spine. Stream Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973) online on iFILM.
