Spanish Affair

Spanish Affair (Ocho apellidos vascos, 2014) is a Spanish romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Then a Basque visitor named Amaia walks into his bar and shrugs off every bit of his charm.

To win her over, Rafa heads north into the Basque Country, where nothing fits him — not the language, not the weather, not the temperament. So he fakes it: he memorizes eight proper Basque surnames, grows a beard, and lies his way past Amaia's gruff fisherman father, a man with no patience for Andalusians. The deeper the act goes, the harder it gets to climb back out. Dani Rovira, Clara Lago, Karra Elejalde and Carmen Machi lead the cast.

Director Emilio Martínez-Lázaro builds the whole thing on Spain's oldest in-house rivalry — Basques versus Andalusians — and lets the regional stereotypes do the joking. It became one of the highest-grossing Spanish films ever and spawned a sequel. A breezy pick for anyone who likes cultural clash played as farce rather than drama.
