About

Synopsis

The Parade (Parada, 2011) is a Serbian tragicomedy from director Srđan Dragojević, and you can watch it online in good quality. A gay vet and his activist partner want to stage Belgrade's first pride march — in a country where that ambition can get you beaten in the street.

Their unlikely bodyguard is Limun, a homophobic ex-paramilitary who runs a tiny wedding-security outfit. The deal is blunt: fix his injured dog, and he'll round up old comrades to protect the march. The catch is who those comrades are — a Serb, a Croat, a Bosniak and an Albanian, men who shot at each other a decade ago, now crammed into one van for a cause every one of them despises.

Dragojević makes the violence funny and the comedy uneasy, mapping how Balkan hatred just swaps targets. The ending splices in real footage of the 2010 Belgrade pride that police failed to shield. Harsh, warm and pointed all at once. Stream The Parade (2011) online on iFILM.
