About

Synopsis

Camille Claudel 1915 (2013) is a spare, near-silent biographical film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Bruno Dumont, with Juliette Binoche in one of her most stripped-back performances. The setting is the Montdevergues asylum in southern France. Camille Claudel — once among the most gifted sculptors of the Paris avant-garde and Auguste Rodin's longtime companion — was committed here by her own family and would never touch clay again.

Dumont keeps the camera still and the dialogue to a minimum: long takes, institutional quiet, a woman counting the days until her brother Paul Claudel arrives. The film isn't a biopic of her artistic rise — it's a record of a few days inside thirty years of confinement. Binoche carries every scene on expression alone, and that turns out to be enough.
