Synopsis

Sparta (2022) is an art-house drama from Ulrich Seidl that you can watch online on iFILM. Ewald, an Austrian in his forties who settled in Romania years ago, is once again looking for a way to start over.

He leaves his girlfriend behind and moves out to the rural backcountry. There, alongside boys from the area, he turns a crumbling village school into a makeshift fortress he calls Sparta. For a while the kids enjoy a carefree new routine, but the locals' suspicion keeps growing. Ewald, meanwhile, is forced to face a truth about himself he has buried for a long time. Georg Friedrich leads this Austria-Germany-France co-production.
