Synopsis
San Antonio (2004) is a French action comedy you can watch online on iFILM, based on Frédéric Dard's bestselling crime novels about the irresistible commissaire San-Antonio. Directed by Frédéric Auburtin, with Gérard Lanvin and Gérard Depardieu heading the cast alongside Valéria Golino and Michel Galabru.
The assignment in London looks simple: keep the French ambassador safe at a British hotel. It falls apart immediately. The ambassador gets snatched from under their noses, and San-Antonio inadvertently helps the kidnapper slip away. His chief fires him. Then the President of the Republic disappears. The Interior Minister picks up the phone: San-Antonio gets a secret squad and 48 hours.
The problem is that his partner Bérurier — Depardieu, large as life and twice as unpredictable — has already been named the official investigator. Two men, one missing president, and an instinct to compete as much as cooperate. The film gets a lot of mileage out of that dynamic, and Depardieu in full-comedy mode is a force of nature.
