Mildred Hubble enrols at Cackles Academy, an all-girls school for witches perched on a misty moor. She has magical instinct; what she lacks is control. Her broomstick careers off-course, her potions bubble over, and her spells produce consistently unexpected results. Classmate Ethel Hallow — played in an early role by a young Felicity Jones — seems to exist primarily to report Mildred's disasters to the headmistress.
