Borgman

"Borgman" (2013) is a Dutch-Belgian psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Alex van Warmerdam brought it to official competition at Cannes — an unusual entry from the Netherlands.

A man is driven out of the forest by a priest and a hunting party. He knocks on the door of a well-off suburban house and asks to use the bath. The husband hits him and sends him away. The wife sneaks him in that night. Jan Bijvoet plays Borgman with a stillness that unsettles rather than threatens; Hadewych Minis matches him as the woman who opened the door without quite knowing why.

Van Warmerdam offers no explanation for what Borgman is — stranger, symbol, something older. The film takes that refusal seriously and never breaks it. What follows is a slow, almost courteous takeover of a household. Stream "Borgman" (2013) on iFILM.
