The Evil Next Door

The Evil Next Door (Andra sidan, 2020) is a Swedish supernatural horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Oskar Mellander and Tord Danielsson built the film around a seven-year-old boy who makes a friend his parents can't see.

Lucas moves into a new house with his father and stepmother. When dad leaves on a work trip, the boy starts spending hours talking to someone his age — someone who lives on "the other side" and is terrified of a creature in the basement. Then Lucas disappears. His stepmother (Dilan Gwyn) has to figure out what lies beyond the boundary between the living and the dead, and how far she is willing to go to cross it. The film is quietly unsettling rather than loud — no trailer-ready jump scares, just pressure that accumulates slowly over 87 minutes.
