Synopsis
KOAPP (1984) is a Soviet stop-motion puppet animated series you can watch online on iFILM. The odd-looking name stands for the "Committee for Especially Active Help to Nature," and every episode grew out of the stories of Mailen Konstantinovsky — a scientist with a gift for making the wonders of the natural world feel like fun rather than homework.
Eighteen shorts were produced at the Ekran studio between 1984 and 1990. In each one, animals, fish and birds gather to untangle some puzzle of nature: why something works the way it does, and what the answer reveals. The voice cast features Georgy Vitsin and Olga Ostroumova, and Vitsin's instantly recognizable delivery carries half the charm on its own.
It's that rare educational animation that teaches through a joke instead of a lecture — kids laugh and quietly soak up how the living world fits together. Adults raised on Soviet puppet cartoons will feel right at home too. Stream KOAPP (1984) online on iFILM.
