Synopsis

1960s Florida. Elwood Curtis is a sharp, ambitious Black teenager whose plans for college collapse the moment a wrongful charge lands him inside a state reform school. He meets Turner there — a boy who has learned a different lesson from life: don't trust the institution, don't wait for fairness, just survive. The school they're trapped in mirrors the real Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys, a facility whose decades of documented abuse against children only came fully to light after investigators began excavating its grounds in the 2010s.
Ross shoots the film from a first-person perspective, placing the camera where the characters' eyes would be — an approach that turns watching into something closer to witnessing.
