The Comedian

The Comedian (2016) is Taylor Hackford's bittersweet comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Robert De Niro plays Jackie Burke, a foul-mouthed stand-up veteran the public still refuses to see as anything but the sitcom character he played decades ago.

After he roughs up a heckler, Jackie is sentenced to community service, where he crosses paths with Harmony (Leslie Mann), the daughter of a sleazy Florida developer. Their odd rapport sparks something neither expected. The supporting bench is stacked: Danny DeVito as his exhausted brother, Edie Falco as his long-suffering manager, plus Harvey Keitel, Cloris Leachman and Billy Crystal. De Niro clearly relishes the club sets, spitting insults like he's worked the circuit for forty years. Expect a wry look at aging in showbiz rather than wall-to-wall laughs.
