Synopsis

Auto Focus (2002) is a biographical drama directed by Paul Schrader that you can watch online on iFILM. It traces the real double life of Bob Crane — star of the 1960s TV hit Hogan's Heroes — who kept his squeaky-clean public image intact while privately filming and photographing hundreds of sexual encounters.

Greg Kinnear plays Crane with an almost uncomfortable likability: charming, funny, genuinely talented, and slowly consumed by an obsession he can't pull back from. Willem Dafoe is John Carpenter, the video-equipment enthusiast who supplies the gear and feeds the habit, always one step removed from accountability. Rita Wilson and Maria Bello play the wives who gradually realize they married a stranger.

Crane was found beaten to death in a Scottsdale hotel room in 1978. No one was ever convicted. Schrader doesn't frame this as a morality play or a murder mystery — he charts the slow erosion of a person who can look straight at the camera and still not see what he's become.
