Treme (Seasons 1–4)

Treme (2010–2013) is an HBO drama from The Wire creator David Simon, ready to watch online on iFILM. It opens three months after Hurricane Katrina, as the people of New Orleans drift back to a half-drowned city and try to rebuild their lives from the studs up.

The show takes its name from an old neighborhood, a birthplace of jazz and Black New Orleans culture. Trombonist Antoine Batiste hustles from gig to gig, chef Janette fights to save a ruined restaurant, hard-headed DJ Davis won't let the block give up, and lawyer Toni searches for people who vanished in the flood. Music isn't the background here — it's the pulse, with live jazz, funk and brass bands eating up half the runtime.

Across four seasons, Simon and Eric Overmyer built a series less about disaster than about a culture that refuses to die. The cast runs deep: Wendell Pierce, Clarke Peters, Khandi Alexander, Melissa Leo, Steve Zahn and John Goodman.
