Synopsis

Aang spent a century frozen in an iceberg and woke up to a world he didn't recognize — the Air Nomads gone, the Fire Nation in control of most of what's left. Katara and Sokka pull him out, and the three head north so he can begin learning Waterbending at the Northern Water Tribe. The route takes them through Kyoshi Island, the tunnels of Omashu, and a detour into the Spirit World that Sokka ends up inside against his will. Two enemies track them the whole way — Commander Zhao by sea, Zuko across land — until everything converges at the Northern Tribe's walls in a battle that pushes Aang into the Avatar State.
Netflix's live-action take earns its place: Gordon Cormier plays Aang without sentimentality, and the fight choreography is a clear step up from what animation-only staging allows. Stream Avatar the Last Airbender Season 1 online on iFILM.
