Synopsis
Wilfred (2011), Season 1 is FX's dark comedy you can watch online on iFILM — thirteen episodes that open the morning after Ryan's failed suicide attempt, when he meets his neighbor's dog and sees not a dog but a blunt Australian guy in a cheap fur suit.
Every episode is titled after a human state — Happiness, Trust, Fear, Anger, Doubt — and under each one Wilfred drags the passive Ryan into some new scheme. Revenge on Spencer, the porn-addicted neighbor. A strange turn volunteering at a hospice. A plot to get rid of Jenna's boyfriend. The dog is crude, rude, and honest to a fault, and somehow he's the one pulling Ryan out of his own fears. By the finale, "Identity," the show finally pokes at the question it's been dodging all season: is Wilfred real, or a symptom?
Elijah Wood and Jason Gann lead it, Gann reprising the character he created for the Australian original. The humor runs filthy and melancholy at once — funny in exact proportion to how unsettling it gets. It's for anyone who likes comedy that isn't scared of the dark.
