Buffalo TV reporter Bruce Nolan has a gift for attracting disasters. One catastrophic day — fired, embarrassed on live air, and dumped in a puddle — pushes him to yell at the sky. The sky yells back. God, played with serene authority by Morgan Freeman, shows up and hands Bruce every last one of his divine powers for an indefinite trial run. Bruce uses them exactly as you'd expect: he parks the moon outside his girlfriend's window, rewires a rival's teleprompter, and answers every prayer on earth with a blanket yes. Each miracle backfires spectacularly. Jennifer Aniston plays Grace, his patient and increasingly done-with-this girlfriend; Steve Carell steals his scenes as the newsroom rival Evan Baxter without even trying.
