Synopsis
A Family Affair (2024) is Richard LaGravenese's romantic comedy, free to watch online on iFILM. Zara grinds away as assistant to a vain action star named Chris Cole, dreaming of a producing job, until she gets news worse than a firing: Chris has fallen for her mother.
Mom is Brooke Harwood (Nicole Kidman), a widowed, well-regarded novelist who long ago shelved her own love life. Chris (Zac Efron) is a megastar used to the planet orbiting him. Zara (Joey King) is mortified — the man whose coffee orders and tantrums she manages all day is suddenly in their kitchen holding her mother's hand. What follows is a run of awkward dinners, hurt feelings, and a tug-of-war over who's using whom and whether any of it is real. Kathy Bates steals scenes as a grandmother who misses nothing.
LaGravenese, who wrote Dangerous Minds and The Fisher King, takes the familiar fame-meets-ordinary-life setup and hands the best beats to Kidman and Efron.
