Synopsis
The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking (1988) is a family adventure film you can watch online on iFILM. Director Ken Annakin had made Swiss Family Robinson for Disney nearly thirty years earlier; here he adapts Astrid Lindgren with Tami Erin as Pippi, arriving at a coastal town with her horse Alfonso and monkey Mr. Neilson, and setting up house alone as if nothing about that is unusual.
Tommy and Annika from next door are happy to follow her lead. The orphanage staff and a pair of businessmen after her property are not. Shot on location in Florida with musical numbers and enough physical comedy to keep younger viewers engaged throughout. More Americanized than the 1970s Swedish adaptations, but this version introduced Pippi to a generation of kids who never knew the original.
