The Conners (Seasons 1–7)

The Conners (2018) is an ABC sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. A continuation of Roseanne, it follows a working-class family in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois, getting on with life after losing its matriarch.

Roseanne is gone — her character is written out in the premiere via an opioid overdose, which hands the show a surprisingly raw streak for a comedy. Dan (John Goodman) is left a widower buried in bills. Darlene (Sara Gilbert) raises two kids while holding half the household together, her sister Becky claws through her own messes, and Aunt Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) keeps everyone half-crazy with her fussing. Money is always short and the work comes and goes — arithmetic plenty of viewers will recognize.

The series was born from a blow-up: the Roseanne revival was axed in 2018 after Roseanne Barr's infamous tweet, and the studio rebuilt the show around the rest of the Conners, where it lasted far longer than anyone expected. The humor is low-key, rooted in the everyday grind of people counting every dollar, and it's one of the rare sitcoms willing to treat being broke as something real.
