Season 1
Freedom is never completely won. But it can be lost.
Synopsis
The Plot Against America (2020), Season 1 is an HBO alternate-history drama in six parts you can watch online on iFILM, set in a United States where the 1940 election goes not to Roosevelt but to aviator-hero and populist Charles Lindbergh.
We watch it all through the Levins, a working-class Jewish family in New Jersey. Herman wants a better neighborhood; Bess fears losing the community that holds them together — while the country drifts, almost casually, toward open antisemitism. A government program called "Just Folks" pulls the older son away, Aunt Evelyn moves into Lindbergh's circle, and soon a Homestead order is sending the family off to Kentucky. Six parts trace how national politics seeps under one dinner table and pries a family apart.
David Simon and Ed Burns adapted Philip Roth's novel, with Winona Ryder, John Turturro, Zoe Kazan and Morgan Spector. It's for viewers after an unsettling parable about how fragile freedom is, not effects-driven sci-fi. Stream The Plot Against America Season 1 online on iFILM.
