Synopsis

Rome Season 1 — watch online on iFILM: twelve episodes of HBO and BBC's historical drama (2005). 52 BC: Julius Caesar ends eight years of war in Gaul and turns his army toward home. In Rome, the Senate is not pleased.

The season runs from the Rubicon crossing through civil war with Pompey, the Egyptian campaign, and Caesar's return as Dictator — filtered throughout by two soldiers on the ground. Centurion Lucius Vorenus and legionary Titus Pullo are nothing alike, but they keep finding themselves at the centre of events that will end the Republic. The aristocrats manoeuvre in marble halls; these two settle things in the streets of the Aventine. That contrast is what makes Rome work where other period epics don't.

Shot on full-scale sets at Cinecittà studios, the production is a co-venture between HBO, BBC, and RAI — enough budget to reconstruct late-Republican Rome at a density no television drama had managed before. Stream Rome Season 1, all 12 episodes, on iFILM.
