Synopsis

Never Cry Wolf (1983) is Carroll Ballard's wilderness drama, available to watch online on iFILM. A young biologist named Tyler is dropped alone into the Canadian Arctic with a single assignment: prove that wolves are wiping out the caribu herds. Six months, a pile of gear, and not another human for miles.

The government's theory falls apart fast. Watching the pack day after day, Tyler (Charles Martin Smith) finds not killers but a family with its own order. He runs absurd experiments on himself, nearly freezes to death, and slowly stops being a city outsider in the tundra. A local Inuit hunter teaches him, mostly without words, what no research report ever could.

Shot on location, the camerawork sits right on the edge of documentary — real wolves, real blizzards, a white horizon with no end. Disney released it as a quiet, almost meditative film about a man finding his place in the wild. It rewards anyone who loves stories of one person against the elements.
